Description for the New Mexico Minority Business Development Agency Business Center Business Advisor  

POSITION SUMMARY:
The New Mexico MBDA Business Advisors are responsible for providing the services that support the mission of the Minority Business Development Agency Center by providing strategic business consulting and resource referral to rapid-growth-potential minority businesses. The primary focus of the MBDA will be providing services to Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs). Experience in federal contracts is required.

REPORTS TO:
The New Mexico MBDA Center director, Gabriela Marques.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS TO DELIVER IN THE SERVICE:

  • Assist the Center Director with day-to-day operations of the Business Center;

  • Conduct client intake, including initial client assessments, and develop plans of action for MBEs

  • Facilitate client service requests and identify resources applicable to MBEs needs

  • Provide ongoing technical assistance to MBEs

  • Assist minority business enterprises (MBEs) with contract bid/proposal preparation and reporting to MBDA headquarters

  • Coordinate MBDA business clients with exporting organizations to support business growth

  • Help MBEs with certifications and registrations

  • Support contract match-making

  • Document client stories and support results tracking

  • Attend conferences on behalf of New Mexico MBDA

  • Market and recruit clients for the New Mexico MBDA Business Center

  • Develop loan package for local banks, alternative financing entities, and venture capital firms that focus on minority-owned businesses

  • Enter opportunities into MBDA’s online resource tools

  • Report monthly tracking and performances metrics

  • Perform administrative duties

  • Advocate on behalf of MBEs 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in business, finance, or related field; Master of Business Administration degree a plus.

  • At least ten (10) years of progressively more responsible business development experience.

  • Hands-on experience developing consulting projects and working with minority-owned businesses strongly preferred.

  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.

  • Must be computer literate, including experience with accounting software.

  • Consulting and experience as a trainer and/or workshop facilitator preferred.

  • Highly organized and efficient.

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Travel required.

  • Must be a very positive, innovative, solution-oriented, results-focused professional with an ability to work well with diverse constituencies. Entrepreneurial spirit and great people skills a must!
